The 1 week/5-days flew by! I'm really glad we got to experience rural Japan and have a week of "quiet" among the otherwise very busy weeks of travelling across Japan.

My eldest daughter, despite not speaking nor understanding Japanese, is still humming and singing songs in Japanese she learned during her time in the class! She says "itadakimasu" before every meal now even back in Canada and mentions another exchange student from Singapore often. Maybe she doesn't want to admit it because she's still young and was resistant to going initially (who wouldn't at this age), she really enjoyed her experience at the preschool. Every night after school, she would tell me about her day, how she caught some bugs, how she played tag with fellow classmates and taught them some English/French. She learned to like miso soup and has been asking it after we left Mino and even in Canada.

While they were both at school, I rented a bike for 500yen daily from the local information centre and biked all around the mountains, rivers and the local roads. What a fabulous way to relax and soak in that time for myself knowing that my kids are also having fun and being safe at the preschool. I walked around daily in the town trying to find local restaurants and pastry shops, I ate all the keiseiki I could. It was fabulous.

Message to Preschool Teachers

Thank you to every single educator for taking good care of both our daughters who were in different classes. Special shoutout to the teacher whose name I unfortunately did not get but who went to Victoria, Canada in her youth and who was very engaging with Avery about her English. Every teacher was thoughtful and caring, and I am appreciative of all the daily messages that were written as feedback on behalf of the children. You made the environment truly amazing.

Message to Local People

Everyone was so nice and willing to help! They made us feel so welcome, a particular shout-out to Rie, a local mom whose daughter also attends the preschool, she acted as the translator and facilitator for all the foreign families, making us restaurant reservation, liaising with the accommodation staff, driving us to the grocery on her own time and using her own car. She was amazing and deserves all the praise.

The Nipponia accommodation and the room we stayed in is truly one of a kind, it was large, spacious and traditional. It felt beautiful and I was very pleased we selected it as our accommodation.

The coworking space WASITA is such a gem! A marvelous idea for visitors wanting to find a place to work with reliable internet, table/chairs, good sunlight but also quiet. It was a pleasant surprise that we did not need to pay extra to use that coworking space, my husband used it daily while he was working and when the kids were at the preschool. He had meetings at night time (day time in Canada) and they allowed him to use it outside of regular opening hours which was so appreciative!

Thank you for the opportunity to share our thoughts on the Japan Preschool Exchange Program. It was a truly meaningful experience for our daughter and our family.

One particularly memorable aspect was how our daughter initially felt uneasy about attending a different preschool on Sunday. However, she showed great courage by following her teacher to class on Monday. By the end of the day, her interest had grown so much that she was already looking forward to returning the next day.

She also had the chance to make new friends, both among the other exchange students and the local children, which made the experience even more enriching for her.
Another highlight was participating in the school’s sports day on Friday. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to be part of the school community, and our daughter thoroughly enjoyed interacting and playing alongside the preschool students. This one week broaden her learning and experience of a new culture, as she tried many things for the first time, such as eating localJapanese cuisine, touching insects, playing in the outdoors, song and dance in Japanese language, and living in a Japanese house.

She also developed a strong bond with the teachers. As a heartfelt gesture, she even volunteered to create a parting gift card for her teacher and new friend, which meant a lot to all of us.

Overall, the program was a valuable and memorable experience that helped build her confidence, independence, and social skills. We are very grateful for the week we have as family in Mino.

Message to Preschool Teachers

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the care and kindness you have shown our daughter during her time at your preschool. We are especially grateful to Teacher Yuko, as well as another teacher whose name we unfortunately did not get the chance to ask—the teacher who mentioned she likes pink and was always with our daughter during outdoor activities and dance sessions.

Our daughter truly loved the entire school environment. She felt so welcomed and cared for by all of you, and it made a lasting impression on her. She especially cherished the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities and outdoor play, which was a wonderful experience for her and something she will always remember.

In fact, she already started missing the teachers as soon as we returned to Nagoya on Friday night to prepare for our flight back to Singapore the next day. That speaks volumes about the bond she formed with all of you in such a short time.

Thank you once again for your warmth, dedication, and for making this experience so special, meaningful and memorable for her. She even says she wants to return next year!

Message to Local People

Thank you for sharing this wonderful house with us. We truly appreciate the opportunity to stay here. Although our stay was short, we quickly grew very fond of the place.

The house offered an excellent blend of modern amenities thoughtfully integrated into a traditional Japanese home. This made our experience unique and far more memorable compared to a typical hotel stay.

We are very glad that we chose the JPE house, and if we have the chance to return in the future, it will certainly be our top choice.

Thank you once again for your hospitality and for making our stay so enjoyable.

Our experience was nothing short of magical. To experience the country the way we did, while our kids were taken care of by loving, experienced caregivers was the gift of a lifetime. For us, and for them. My son is still asking (a week later), when we are going back and when he will see his teachers again. The teachers and assistant principal made us feel very welcome, they didn't make us feel bad for using Google Translate to speak with them, they were excited every morning to see us and took extra care with our daughter (she would cry in the morning when we left). I am so glad our kids had this amazing experience!

Message to Preschool Teachers

Thank you so much for all you did for our kids. It was something they will remember forever. Atticus still asks about you, and wants to see you again. We were so honored to be in your beautiful town, and we hope to come back soon! Also, both Atticus and Charlotte's daycares in the United States loved all the pictures you took, thank you for documenting their experience so thoroughly.

Message to Local People

You were all amazing. Thank you for all you did to make us feel welcome. We will be talking about this experience for years! The food, the community, the whole culture could not have been more welcoming and caring.

For Taiwanese people, having the opportunity to experience a Japanese kindergarten is truly a wonderful experience. The program was very simple and smooth; from consultation and application to the actual experience, we encountered no problems. The website also provided clear instructions and reminders, and we completed the experience with relatively little effort. I recommend it to any family considering a kindergarten study tour in Japan to experience local life.

Message to Preschool Teachers

A huge thank you to every teacher at Mino Nursery School, especially the teachers in my child's class, for their love, patience, and understanding. My child is a bit slow to warm up and gets nervous in new environments, requiring an adjustment period. However, his teacher won his trust on the very first day. Although he hesitated a little on the second and third days, the teacher still made him feel very safe, which reassured us as parents. We greatly admire and like the teachers at Mino Nursery School. This experience of kindergarten in Japan was a wonderful memory for both my child and me. In just one week, we gained a deep understanding of Mino Nursery School's nurturing philosophy and dedication to children's daily lives. My child loved it here, and so do we. We highly recommend it to any family looking to experience a Japanese kindergarten. My child loves and misses his teachers here very much, and he will continue to grow with these wonderful memories and the nourishment they provide. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

Message to Local People

The accommodation was well-equipped, comfortable, and clean, and we had a wonderful week there (it would have been even better if it had Western-style beds, as we weren't used to sleeping on Japanese-style mattresses on the floor, but this didn't diminish our love for the accommodation and Mino). We were fortunate enough to participate in an event organized by the kindergarten and the community, and we really enjoyed the local community's vibrant atmosphere and friendliness. Living in Mino was very comfortable and relaxing; we loved this lovely town. I would also like to thank the staff at the accommodation and co-working space for their friendly and clear introduction on the first day, which helped us quickly familiarize ourselves with the environment.

Features of the Preschool

Feature 1

Mino Preschool is uniquely located within the grounds of a temple. In our spacious premises, children can run around and play freely to their hearts' content. Their daily lives are deeply intertwined with nature—from taking walks through our lush, nature-rich town to growing their own vegetables in the garden. Through our strong ties with the local community, children grow and thrive surrounded by rich, warm relationships.

Feature 2

Guided by the belief that every child is born an artist, we deeply value their innate sensibilities and the physical expressions that flow from them, incorporating expressive play into our daily routines.

Children aged 0 to 2 spend their days in classrooms located in a separate, dedicated building. Thanks to the small class sizes, our teachers are able to provide attentive, personalized care to every single child, ensuring parents can leave their little ones with complete peace of mind.
