A particularly memorable moment was watching our child participate in the morning routines, especially the group exercises and activities. It was amazing to see how quickly children adapt despite being in a completely new environment, our child was smiling, engaged, and building connections with classmates. It really showed us how universal kindness and play are.

Message to Preschool Teachers

One of the things we appreciated most was how welcoming and nurturing the teachers and staff were. Even with the language difference, they made every effort to make our child feel comfortable, included, and supported. The daily updates, photos, and communication gave us so much reassurance and allowed us to feel connected to our child’s experience. We are very thankful and appreciative to all the teachers and staff of Hananosato pre school.

Message to Local People

The owner of the accommodation were very communicative and informative. Been very helpful and responsive.

This has truly been a life changing experience for us. We are so so happy to have met so many wonderful teachers and students and families. We were welcomed by the community which is exactly why we chose Tsukigata. The teachers had a traditional tea party for us, they also had me present my Olympic background to the students, welcomed us from day one. They were also very kind to the kids in helping them to learn the customs and also the language. They helped us to arrange a visit to a Buddhist Temple where the English teacher came to facilitate and teach us about the customs. Just so many great memories that I will truly cherish forever.

Message to Preschool Teachers

Thank you for your kindness and welcoming arms since day one. The kids immediately felt at home at the school and in fact did not even want to come home that first day, they were having so much fun! Everyday they learned more things and bonded with their classmates all while learning the beautiful Japanese customs and traditions. We thank you for how warm you have been to myself and Ryan as well. From the tea party to the Buddhist temple visit and museum, we appreciate your efforts to enhance our experience as well. We loved connecting with the preschool students and parents, the elementary and junior high students as well. It was very special that we had the opportunity to connect with them. We wanted to be a part of a town community and Tsukigata perfectly captured what we were looking for.
Please encourage any and all families who may travel to California in the US to look us up so that we can host them! We welcome you all to our home to see how Californians live!

Message to Local People

The stay in Tsukigata was perfect for our family. It was quaint but it also made us very appreciative of the amenities that we had. We adapted to the low door frames and smaller interiors and exposed heaters. It made us realize that we don't need more than that to be happy. The close space also brought our family closer and we interacted much more together.
To the local community: We could not have asked for a better experience than the one we had in Tsukigata. It was completely ideal. From the ice fishing to the snow golf, kendo, and time spent at the community gymnasium and meeting all of the students at the elementary and junior high schools, we had a phenomenal time being a part of this community. Even the people walking along the sidewalks would bow their head and say hello. We quickly started seeing familiar faces at the store or the Popote or gymnasium and we are so lucky to have been a part of this kind of connection. Everyone has such interesting stories to share and we loved how people opened up to us to see what Japanese life in a town is like. We appreciate the town leadership who were so welcoming and happy to meet us as well as facilitate new experiences for us. We are leaving with a fuller heart and lifelong friendships.
