The flight from Haneda Airport to Hagi-Iwami Airport takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. From there, it is about a 1-hour and 10-minute drive by rental car to the destination.
There are no regular flights available for this route. While there are limited-time flights operating in August, we highly recommend accessing the destination via Tokyo.
Features of the Preschool
Wataboushi Preschool operates as a forest-based Preschool where nature serves as the primary environment for learning. Children engage in daily outdoor activities near forests, rivers, and the sea, which allows them to explore and nurture their independence naturally.
The Preschool respects each child's individuality, personality, and developmental stage by providing tailored support. Instead of strict control, the staff carefully watches over the children, viewing failures as valuable opportunities for them to cultivate adaptability and flexibility.
The Preschool offers a unique buffet-style lunch featuring locally sourced vegetables and handmade ingredients. This approach encourages children to understand their own hunger levels and fosters a sense of responsibility by allowing them to choose their food and finish what they take.
A Day of the Children
Activities in small groups of about 10 children.
5-year-olds lead the morning meetings to decide the day's outdoor adventures.
Teachers never rush the children, allowing them to walk at their own pace.
Hiking over the mountain to play in the treehouse.
Building a campfire together to roast sweet potatoes.
Serving their own lunch, taking just the amount they can eat.

Shimane Aquarium AQUAS
As one of the largest aquariums in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions, AQUAS exhibits around 10,000 marine animals across 400 species. It is the only place in Western Japan where you can see adorable beluga whales, and it offers a variety of fun events, including dolphin performances.
Gozenyu (Hot Spring)
Located within the Arifuku Onsen town, this is one of the local hot spring facilities open for day-trip bathing. With water temperatures ranging from 42 to 44°C (107 to 111°F), it perfectly warms your body right to the core. It is also famous as a "hot spring for beautiful skin."
Kuromatsu Beach
A tranquil beach boasting a beautiful sandy shoreline that stretches for 300 meters. With its shallow and crystal-clear waters, it is the perfect spot for a relaxing seaside stroll in any season.
